Welcome back winter!
We have re-opened the main gates at Shaganappi Point golf course and are gearing up for Chinook blast, this February 15th and 16th!
Conditions have of course improved with the new snow, but given what was left over from before this snowfall, we are essentially re-starting the trails with next to no snow base... The snow is also bonding somewhat poorly to the underlying surface, so it will take time and more snow to get the trails back into tip-top shape.
Chinook Blast: Once again, we are running our Chinook Blast event this coming February 15th and 16th. Free fat bike and e-fat bike demos from our friends at Bow Cycle and Calgary Cycle, free cross-country ski and snowshoe demos from The Norseman, free skills sessions (TBD), and more vendors to be announced! Come on down for a fun day of winter activity in Calgary! RSVP through our website on the events page (https://www.shaganappinordic.ca)
Fat bike trails: Green trails were packed Friday and riding was good even before the trails were backed, although studded tires are recommended as there are some underlying icy patches. Blue trails will hopefully be packed today although are still riding well even without grooming.
Cross country ski trails: The driving range and Alasdair's Alley (Junction 1 to 7) are the best right now. Other areas of the network have seen attention, although have some underlying hazards due to the low snow, Marginal Conditions are throughout the ski trail system due to unmarked hazards under the very thin cover of snow.
Walking trails: These will hopefully be packed down today (blog will be updated if they are packed/groomed), just like the fat bike trails, there are some remaining icy spots from all the melting and freezing earlier in the winter, be careful (or consider walking spikes).

Donations: Please consider donating what you can to SNO or becoming a Friend of SNO. Whether you're an individual or a community-minded organization, money is needed so that we can continue to offer free outdoor winter recreational for all Calgarians in the heart of the city. We need to make some big purchases like updated grooming machinery and equipment; equipment storage; lights in the driving range; etc. Since SNO is an entirely volunteer-run organization, 100% of donations go towards improving the winter trail experience at Shaganappi. Donate Now, or become a Friend of SNO.
