SNO volunteers ROCK!! Three volunteers were out in the Arctic temperatures and windchill Sunday working on the shared snowshoe/fat bike, and xc trails!
XC ski trails:
There is one pass of corduroy on a good part of the ski trail system for the skate skiers; and one set of track setting in one direction for the classic skiers. (With the exception of the trails north of the escarpment (junction 7-8-1).) Volunteer Barry ran out of time due to the snowmobile getting stuck multiple times on many icy hills with the roller then the track setter today. He spent lots of time getting unstuck and resorting to using the winch to get out! One or two laps on the expert loop were done... (with an adventure or two on the way back up the icy hills that also required the use of the winch at the very end of his volunteer shift!)
Shared snowshoe/fat bike trail system:
Two volunteers were out early Sunday morning snowshoe packing the blue pin-flagged trails from the sheds in the driving range to the NW side of the natural ravine and beyond... Thanks sooo much to Jason and Chris for that work in the frigid temps and wind, the pictures look awesome for the fat bikers!
Fingers crossed we have a volunteer or two available Monday to finish the xc ski trail work, we'll update this blog and Nordic Pulse if that is the case!
Donations/Friends of SNO:
Please consider donating what you can, or becoming a Friend of SNO. Whether you're an individual or a community-minded organization, money is needed so that we can continue to offer free outdoor winter recreational opportunities for all Calgarians in the heart of the city. SNO needs to make some big purchases like updated grooming machinery and equipment; replace deteriorating equipment storage buildings; installing lights in the driving range; etc. Since SNO is an entirely volunteer-run organization, 100% of donations go towards improving the winter trail experience at Shaganappi.
Amazing snowshow packing of the blue pin flagged snowshoe/fat bike trail system Sunday morning!
Snowmobile and automated Ginzugroomer Sunday afternoon in the driving range
Snowmobile and volunteer-built bespoke roller and compacter just before getting stuck on an icy hill Sunday afternoon! Looovely track setting that was also done Sunday afternoon by the same volunteer, thanks Barry!
