We are happy to announce that we are open for the winter!
With all the new snow, we have opened the golf course gates for inner-city winter recreation! Please note that the parking lot will not be plowed till Monday and is therefore snow-covered and icy! Also, the porta-potties have not been placed in the parking lot yet....
General conditions: Snow cover is generally good for early season but is thin in various places such as on paved and gravel surfaces around the golf course. Please stay off Tee boxes and roped-off areas to not damage the grass; additionally be mindful of the resident coyotes, who have been spotted on the golf course recently.
XC ski trails:
All ski trails have been roller-packed Thursday night but will be covered with the fresh snow from this Friday. Conditions are marginal because they range from good to poor depending on sun exposure and underlying ground heat. No grooming or tracksetting has occurred yet as the snow base is not thick enough but trails will likely get additional grooming this Sunday depending on volunteer capacity and weather conditions.
Roller Packing the ski trails on November 21st
Shared snowshoe and Fat bike trails; and dedicated walking trails:
The snowshoe/fat bike trails have not been packed after the new snow Friday and are currently too soft to ride; if you have a pair of snowshoes and want some exercise we’d love your help! Take a beautiful walk with snowshoes on the snowshoe/fat bike trails and separate, dedicated walking trails to help pack down the snow and create a lasting base.
Interested in Volunteering?
We'd love your help! Check out our website's "volunteer" page for ways to help us! We are always looking for individuals to help us in various ways from snow farming to grant writing; there are many ways to help with little time commitment, and you can volunteer as your schedule allows!
Memberships:
Thank you to those who have purchased SNO memberships this season! Because of you, we can continue to offer free inner-city winter recreation to Calgarians. If you want, head over to the "Friends of SNO" page on our website to get a membership today and support free winter recreation at Shaganappi! Or you can make a one time donation if that works better for you!
